25-years-old and figuring it out as I go. I’m a Chicago native who moved to New York City in 2015. Late last year, I left Bushwick, Brooklyn for more space with my family and a surprisingly shorter commute in New Jersey.
I met Jesus when I was a Sophomore in high school. My best friend took a risk on me and invited me to church, during swim team practice while we were doing kick sets in the pool! I walked into a high school service full of people my age who were genuinely worshiping God. I was in awe and never looked back. I decided to go all-in with my relationship with Him on July 11, 2009, at our church’s annual summer camp.
My relationship with the Lord has been full of peaks and valleys. You won’t always feel like you’re on the mountain tops, and it’s equally important to remember you won’t always feel like you’re in the depths. There are moments when I feel super distant from God, and there are moments I feel like I can hear His voice with complete clarity. In the past ten years, I’ve endured heartache, backlash from family members over my faith and even sexual assault and the trauma that follows. But I’ve also found greater peace, hope, joy and love in Jesus than I’ve ever known.
Each season brings something new; and with that, I’ve learned there is no such thing as “routine” in relationship. What I hold on to is the fact that Jesus is my Lord and He guides my steps, no matter what I’m walking into.
I started my greeting card company, Âme Courrier, in early 2018.
I pursued a degree in fashion design and worked in the industry for three years after graduating from college. But I felt like there was something “more” for me. Over time, I found myself making cards to celebrate my friends and their special moments. I loved the simplicity of taking a brush pen and some paper and being able to create and give something as meaningful as my words. Jesus says in Matthew that out of overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks(12:34). I believe our written words are also a product of an overflow of the soul. Âme Courrier translates to “soul mail.” My hope is that each card would encourage someone to stir up the reservoir in their soul as they put pen to paper.
I get to encourage people and I get to do what I was created to do. Whether it’s encouraging them to write or simply giving them a glimmer of hope and joy for their day. I was created by the Creator in His image, and I believe He instilled a creativity in each of us. This is my outward expression of my inner calling.
